Why it's great
Flaws, but not dealbreakers
You choose frequency (weekly, fortnightly, monthly), bag size (250g, 500g, 1kg), and whole bean or ground. Most offer a learning algorithm (Pact) or curator's choice (Has Bean, Batch). Pause or cancel anytime.
Always choose whole bean. Pre-ground loses 60% of aroma in 15 minutes. If you don't have a grinder, get a £99 Kingrinder K6 — it pays for itself in 3 months of subscription savings vs café coffee.
Subscription: £12-18/week = £624-936/year for 250g/week. Café flat white: £3.50 x 5 days x 52 weeks = £910/year. Home brewing is cheaper even with gear amortised — subscriptions are the middle ground.
UK roasters roast-to-order or weekly. Look for 'roasted on' dates — peak flavour is 5-21 days post-roast. Avoid subscriptions that ship from EU/US warehouses (adds 1-2 weeks transit).
